Join Jolene Sugarbaker on Jolene Goes Artsy, where she takes you BEHIND THE ART!

On this “Artsy” Mission, Jolene takes you to the Corcoran Gallery Of Art in Washington DC.

http://www.Corcoran.org

The DC Arts Commission hosts Art Salons every month, and the Corcoran was hosting a Salon this past October.

Jolene received a special invitation from the DC Arts Commission to film the event!
http://dcarts.dc.gov

While she was there, she interviewed Artist Brandon Hill, which you’ll remember from a past Jolene Goes Artsy.

Brandon was there exhibiting his artwork, including some pieces he had to create with other artists.

The group artwork had to match the style of the current Exhibitions at the Corcoran Art Gallery, which were Seargant and the Sea, and Edward Burtynsky.

These great Salons get together Art minded folks from the VA, MD and DC Area!

The President of the Corcoran Art Gallery and Art School spoke, including many people from the DC Commission. These were on loud speaker, and in a big hall. The audio didn’t turn out all that great, so it’s not included, but it was so great to see all these people!

The Arts are Alive and Well in Washington DC!

Join Jolene as she furthers the Arts in DC!

Here was info about the event:

I don’t really see why a video like this has to raise an issue to begin with. It’s just informing us about an art show.

  5. Evilmoogle149 Says:

    Actually, run ons …
Actually, run ons make a sentence fairly hard to understand. I had to reread this a few times before fully understanding this “issue” that your trying to bring up. Only…I’m not seeing the issue here.
To me, it sounds like your saying that most white people are trailer trash and that black people shouldn’t be able to say words like “Juxtaposition”. I may be wrong about what your trying to say; but you should really work on that grammar. The run on makes it pretty difficult to read.

    Furthermore, if …
Furthermore, if black artists aren’t appealing to the white people who run art institutions and other white artists, they will be ostrasized and will not have a wide, mainstream dissemination of their art. For black artists, whoever lends the most poetry to the hegemony of white supremacy wins. That’s what Brandon Hill is doing for John Singer Sargeant even though Sargent was so obviously a white supremacist.

    Obviously, Jolene …
Obviously, Jolene attempts to use extremely simple language that anybody who hasn’t gotten past the fifth grade would understand. I don’t think that “juxtaposition” is in any fifth grader’s vocabulary list. The entire point of this video is to relay art to the common masses. However, Jolene is a white man in the system of racism white supremacy and is therefore readily accepted amongst most white circles with little difficulty.

  12. blackberryjuice1 Says:

    You’re intelligent …
You’re intelligent enough to know what I said in that sentence. I find it interesting that you would rather skirt the issue with an elementary school grammar lesson than deal with the real and serious issue I raised.

    Why is the black …
Why is the black guy using large words like “juxtaposition” and struggling to speak upwards to talk to a self-proclaimed white trash diva who is obviously not that alienated from the larger white society of power and influence that she is able to easily have access to equipment and crew in order to do a television program at a very prestigious art gallery?

Hey Jolene, I’m a new subscriber but long time watcher. I too want to know the artist from 4:15, question from NLyteNmE. That persons artwork was very POWERFUL! Makes you really look at it and analyze what the artist is trying to convey. If you know who it is, I would LOVE to know. Thanks a bunch.

This is what domination looks like. When “white trash” are more readily accepted by elite white circles of high art over highly credentialed and well-dressed black people.
