Lady GaGa Visits An Art Gallery In Paris

Posted by admin on February 24th, 2010 and filed under artist gallery | 12 Comments »

Lady Gaga (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta; March 28, 1986) is an American recording artist. Lady Gaga began performing in the rock music scene of New York City’s Lower East Side. She soon signed with Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records, upon its establishment in 2007. During her early time at Interscope, she worked as a songwriter for fellow label artists and captured the attention of Akon, who recognized her vocal abilities, and had her also sign to his own label, Kon Live Distribution.
Her debut album, The Fame, was released in August, 2008. In addition to receiving generally positive reviews, it went number-one in four countries, and topped the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart in the United States. Its first two singles,”Just Dance” and “Poker Face”, co-written and co-produced with RedOne, became international number-one hits, and the album later earned a total of six Grammy Award nominations and won awards for Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording. In early 2009, after having opened for New Kids on the Block and the Pussycat Dolls, she embarked on her first headlining tour, The Fame Ball Tour. By the end of 2009, she released her second studio album The Fame Monster, with the global chart-topping lead single “Bad Romance”, as well as having embarked on her second headlining tour of the year, The Monster Ball Tour.
Lady Gaga is inspired by glam rock musicians such as David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, as well as pop music artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson. She has also stated fashion is a source of inspiration for her songwriting and performances. For example, critics have pointed out the heavy influence she’s got from Junko Shimada, a Paris-based Japanese designer.[1]
To date, she has sold over eight million albums and 35 million singles digitally worldwide.
The Fame Monster (stylized as The Fame Mons†er) is the second studio album by American recording artist Lady Gaga, released on November 18, 2009. The album’s eight songs were initially intended to be part of a re-release of Gaga’s debut album The Fame. However, Lady Gaga announced that the new songs would be available as a stand alone album, as she thought the re-release was too expensive and that, as the piece represents a separate conceptual and musical body of work, it does not need the songs of The Fame to support it. A Super Deluxe Fame Monster pack containing the two releases was released on December 15, 2009.
The album deals with the darker side of fame, as experienced by Lady Gaga over the course of 20082009 while travelling around the world, and are expressed through a monster metaphor. Gaga compared the feel of her debut album and The Fame Monster with the Yin and yang concept. Cover artwork was done by Hedi Slimane and has a gothic look which Gaga had to convince her record company to allow her to shoot. The composition takes its inspiration from Gothic music and fashion shows. Contemporary critics gave a positive review of the album, with the majority of them complimenting the songs “Bad Romance” and “Dance in the Dark”.
In some countries the album charted together with The Fame while in others like the United States, Canada and Japan, it charted as a separate album. It has reached top ten in most of the major markets. “Bad Romance” was released as the album’s first single. It topped the Canadian, United Kingdom and Irish charts while reaching the top ten in United States, Australia and Sweden. Lady Gaga announced The Monster Ball Tour supporting the album, which started on November 27, 2009 and will continue through June 2010.

The Saatchi Gallery 100

Posted by admin on February 18th, 2010 and filed under artist gallery | 3 Comments »

Art that was “headbuttingly impossible to ignore” is how Charles Saatchi describes the work that intrigued him as he started to collect British art in the early 1990s. Damien Hirst’s giant shark in formaldehyde, Tracey Emin’s unmade bed and a chilling portrait of Myra Hindley by Marcus Harvey are among the artworks that have since become icons of the decade. The Saatchi Gallery, now in the former County Hall in London, is a permanent home for a changing selection of Saatchi’s world-famous collection.

The Saatchi Gallery 100 is a fast-paced and fascinating film featuring one hundred of these artworks, accompanied by reflections and anecdotes from the artists themselves. Sarah Lucas’ confrontational self-portraits are among the highlights, as are the bold paintings of Gary Hume, photographs by Richard Billingham, sculptures of genetically mutated children by Jake and Dinos Chapman, and many more.

Like the collection itself, the film offers a unique understanding of why London has become the centre of the international art world over the past decade – and how art in Britain continues to surprise and challenge and delight.

How can a strictly amateur self taught artist get to exhibit at the Tate Gallery.?

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2010 and filed under artist gallery | 5 Comments »

I heard on the UK radio this morning that a relatively unknown artist is allowed to exhibit a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the painting has been descibed bu professional critics as awful and amateurish. In the past "artists" have been awarded large sums of money for such art as ‘ A PILE OF BRICKS ‘ , an ‘ UNMADE BED ‘ etc. How ?

Do you understand contemporary art? Conceptual art lies in the idea, thoery, or philosophy underlying the art, not in the execution of it. Art critics are extremely well educated in art theory and the movements within contemporary art. While you may not always agree with their opinions (because neither do I) you have to respect that they know what they are talking about.
If you want to make it big, I would suggest getting enrolled at a well respected art school and beef up on your theory, that way the underlying concepts of your art will be strong. Take advantage of the constructive criticism offered by your peers and professors, it can only make your work better, since technical perfection does not necessarily produce "great" art.
Also, being enrolled in an institution will give you tons of opportunites to show your work and build strong networks of connections in the artworld.
Good luck, maybe I’ll be writing about you someday.

Would people rather buy art from the artist or a gallery?

Posted by admin on February 14th, 2010 and filed under artist gallery | 5 Comments »

The artist, so they get full compensation for their work, without giving a percentage to the gallery. Also, this way, you can talk to the artist about their own personal thoughts on that piece of art.
