I am planning to go to the movie theater by the verizon center with a friend — she will be driving and I will get there by metro. I have a lot of experience around DC and am pretty confident that we’ll be fine, but she is worried about the safety of the area. We will be there in the afternoon/evening, not later than 10:00. Are there any safety concerns for 2 girls alone in the area at those times?
There is a lot of police in that area because there are many events going on. No worries about safety! I go there 3 night out of the month to watch movies at night and I’ve never seen anything bad other than bunch of teenagers hanging around.

Ten years ago it was still a bit rough. Nowadays, it’s safe. Very high-end, with restaurants up and down 7th Street. Just stick to the main streets, don’t talk to street people, and you’ll be fine.
If you want to be ultra-cautious, after the movie structure your departure so that you walk together–maybe you walk with her to her car, and then she drives you the short distance to the Metro entrance.

The only thing that is the problem with Gallery Place in Downtown DC are the rowdy and ghetto teenagers!! UGH!! They are loud, rude, and just plain annoying!! I would go early during the day when it’s decent. At night it’s like a ghetto parade!!
