New York Times, April 16, 2010.”Street vendors who have become fixtures at some of Manhattans busiestparks — hawking paintings, kitschy souvenirs and all sorts of ephemera— may find themselves a lonelier crowd, as the Bloombergadministration proposes to cut their numbers by 75 percent. On Friday, the Department of Parks and Recreation is scheduled to holda hearing on a proposal to slice the number of vendors allowed inparts of Central Park and all of Union Square Park, Battery Park andthe High Line Park. If the proposal is approved, as expected, therestrictions would begin to take effect in a month.”
New York City is not a hospital operating room, yet Mike Bloomberg is continuing the sterilization campaign that Rudy Giuliani started in Times Square, said Robert Lederman, a longtime foe of Mr. Benepes and the founder of A.R.T.I.S.T., an advocacy group with approximately 2,000 members. And the parks commissioner, Adrian Benepe, sees himself as a real estate agent whos trying to get the maximum price per square foot for all of our public parks.
There will be an artists protest rally this coming Friday at 10 AM, at the Chelsea Recreation Center, 430 West 25th Street, in Manhattan. Following that will be a public hearing and then a decision by the Parks Commissioner on the proposed rules.

MICHELLE SUNA
Born in New York City, Michelle Suna has been painting for over three decades. Nature and her very personal view of it, continues to remain the subject of her attention as she is fascinated by pristine forms and the bold magisterial landscapes that they create.
The viewer, able to enter into Ms. Suna’s paintings and photographs without the muddle of artifice or barriers is guided by her innate aesthetic sense, which is both direct and evocative. She explores color, light and form in a unique and courageous manner, without pretense or fear and produces a sublime integration of abstracted reality in her work.
Michelle Suna studied art and communications at Syracuse University, interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology and worked for the architect, Richard Meier. This multi media discipline, coupled with her passion for life, nature and art is vividly exemplified through the development of a large and diverse body of work.

For the last eight years, she has been living and working on the East End of Long Island, producing many unique and meditative series of paintings and photographs, influenced by the exquisite light and landscapes of the region.

Self adornment – we love it. One of the oldest and most popular types of self decoration is the wearing of jewelry. Some of the most special pieces are individual and created by hand. Handcrafted jewelry is not only an expression of the artist but of the wearer. A beautiful ring or simple pendant can speak to the feelings of the one who made it and how the person who wears it sees them self. Whether created in silver or gold; plain or sparkling with gems and stones, artist made jewelry is that often anonymous coming together of personalities that is unique.
