Lady Gaga (born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta; March 28, 1986) is an American recording artist. Lady Gaga began performing in the rock music scene of New York City’s Lower East Side. She soon signed with Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records, upon its establishment in 2007. During her early time at Interscope, she worked as a songwriter for fellow label artists and captured the attention of Akon, who recognized her vocal abilities, and had her also sign to his own label, Kon Live Distribution.
Her debut album, The Fame, was released in August, 2008. In addition to receiving generally positive reviews, it went number-one in four countries, and topped the Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart in the United States. Its first two singles,”Just Dance” and “Poker Face”, co-written and co-produced with RedOne, became international number-one hits, and the album later earned a total of six Grammy Award nominations and won awards for Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording. In early 2009, after having opened for New Kids on the Block and the Pussycat Dolls, she embarked on her first headlining tour, The Fame Ball Tour. By the end of 2009, she released her second studio album The Fame Monster, with the global chart-topping lead single “Bad Romance”, as well as having embarked on her second headlining tour of the year, The Monster Ball Tour.
Lady Gaga is inspired by glam rock musicians such as David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, as well as pop music artists such as Madonna and Michael Jackson. She has also stated fashion is a source of inspiration for her songwriting and performances. For example, critics have pointed out the heavy influence she’s got from Junko Shimada, a Paris-based Japanese designer.[1]
To date, she has sold over eight million albums and 35 million singles digitally worldwide.
The Fame Monster (stylized as The Fame Mons†er) is the second studio album by American recording artist Lady Gaga, released on November 18, 2009. The album’s eight songs were initially intended to be part of a re-release of Gaga’s debut album The Fame. However, Lady Gaga announced that the new songs would be available as a stand alone album, as she thought the re-release was too expensive and that, as the piece represents a separate conceptual and musical body of work, it does not need the songs of The Fame to support it. A Super Deluxe Fame Monster pack containing the two releases was released on December 15, 2009.
The album deals with the darker side of fame, as experienced by Lady Gaga over the course of 20082009 while travelling around the world, and are expressed through a monster metaphor. Gaga compared the feel of her debut album and The Fame Monster with the Yin and yang concept. Cover artwork was done by Hedi Slimane and has a gothic look which Gaga had to convince her record company to allow her to shoot. The composition takes its inspiration from Gothic music and fashion shows. Contemporary critics gave a positive review of the album, with the majority of them complimenting the songs “Bad Romance” and “Dance in the Dark”.
In some countries the album charted together with The Fame while in others like the United States, Canada and Japan, it charted as a separate album. It has reached top ten in most of the major markets. “Bad Romance” was released as the album’s first single. It topped the Canadian, United Kingdom and Irish charts while reaching the top ten in United States, Australia and Sweden. Lady Gaga announced The Monster Ball Tour supporting the album, which started on November 27, 2009 and will continue through June 2010.

As a member of one of Britains best-selling pop music acts of all time, to being one-half of that countrys reigning power couple, shockingly lithe singer-turned-fashionista Victoria Beckham went from pop superstar to global media magnet in under a decade. She first turned heads as the resident glamour girl Posh Spice she of the sultry looks and muted vocals in the late 1990s pop creation, The Spice Girls, before setting Englands press ablaze as the wife of football (i.e., soccer) superstar, David Beckham. Such was the public and media fascination with Posh and Becks, as they were called in the press, that when Beckham announced his intentions to cross the pond and play for the L.A. Galaxy soccer team, all of Hollywood came knocking, offering up everything from reality TV shows to million-dollar endorsement deals.
