HARWICH, MA- A 19-year-old Dennis man was killed in a car crash on Route 28 in Harwich around 11 last night. Police allege the driver, who survived, was under the influence of alcohol.
The deceased, Steven Saling, was a passenger in the Nissan van driven by Eric St. Cyr, 23, also of Dennis.
Harwich police officials say the van went off the road in front of the Kennedy Gallery near Chase Road and hit a utility pole. The pole was snapped in two.
Fire and rescue workers discovered the body of Saling, a 2007 graduate of Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich, in the wreckage.
St. Cyr and another passenger who hasnt been named by police were outside the vehicles. St. Cyr was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for injuries and was released this morning.
He was charged with motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle resulting in homicide, marked lanes violation and speeding.
The other, unnamed passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Cape Cod Hospital, Harwich police said.
Police said St. Cyr is being held without bail. At the time of the fatal crash, he was out on personal recognizance from an arrest in Dennis Feb. 14.

I know the driver. …
I know the driver. He made a very poor decision for sure. Sucks that he took a life. I hope he will learn to straighten up! I have always had an issue with him when we were young kids. I hope this will be a lesson for all.
